Actually, advertising is not illegal, you can advertize, but since the
internet is already organized into demographic groups by interest, it is
best to send appropriate advertizing to appropriate groups. Someone
offering a CD of bondage photos on the alt.personals.bondage or
alt.bondage groups is very appropriate. Advertizing trademark or green
card legal services to alt.bondage is not appropriate. Be up front with
people and let them know what your offering and for how much in less than
20 lines. Remember, some users (prodigy, compuserve, AOL) pay to receive
your posting and pay up to 25 cents/page (25 lines).

A really good one is to include GIF files back to the poster. It is the
equivalent to taping a brick to a reply card that is labled "return
postage guaranteed". They get you off their mailing list very quickly.
