I sure hope they're using some good spam prevention measures on that list. 
What a tempting target for spammers (who no doubt will listen in to learn 
what they're up against).

As to how to control spam on a list, you pretty much have to rely on the 
technique that AOL used -- locking out "troubling" addresses and in some 
cases blocking entire domains. Other than that, the simple act of restricting 
posts to members of the list (such as is the case with online-news) is 
effective enough to prevent the vast majority of spams.
