There are several success stories. The oldest of which is Clarinet - a
commercial distribution of "usenet" newsgroups. The fee is about
$3/user/month for the first 3-5 users and $1/user/month for each
additional user. Most POPs include the royalties for Clarinet in their
access charges. Clarinet is a Canadian company.
www.infohouse.com is a commercial "on-line-magazine-stand" which includes
Penthouse Magazine, several catalogues of adult GIFs, several gift
catalogues, and several publications. In addition to their own web
server they offer access to other web servers. They provide patches to
Mosaic, FTP, and E-Mail for "internet-checks" via First Virtual.
The Enterprise Group offers music distribution and act booking. It's a
good way for small clubs to "audition" new bands.
Pizza Hut and Dominos offer Pizza by internet.
Lawyers have gone crazy with internet. After the "spamming" incident,
they have gotten very good at scanning groups like misc.jobs.wanted for
people wanting "Green Cards". They also respond to "jobs.offered"
postings posted by agencies. Many agencies and head-hunters are putting
together "packages" including long-term contracts, green-card
sponsorship, and relocation assistance.
Currently about 12 Banks, CheckFree, Digicash, Secure-Card, and several
other small venture firms are developing secure banking methods.
The National Association of Securities Dealers has had a "Broker's
subnet" since Jan/94.
