I think it's got a lot to do with online publishing myself because it shows what business models various companies are exploring which in turn impacts us all. Hence I think Suzanne's on the right track with her interest in capital markets.  For example, InfoSeek acquired Quando today and its stock soared because there was a business model beyond banner ads, namely comparative shopping.

I dunno about that.  It looks like Cybergold, which pays people to view ads, is still going strong with a number of partners, investors and sponsors.  And the sponsorship model has worked for a number of companies, especially as part of a more general campaign.  For example, IBM paid about $300K to sponsor the two-week-long Deep Blue chess tournament conference on Electric Minds.  I could easily see the financial community getting involved sponsoring discussions of personal finance and/or an IRS site.
